The following is an instruction issued by the Premier of Victoria to Victorian Government agencies requiring them to lodge copies of all of their publications with the Library and give the Library permission to archive their internet publications and websites.
This circular replaces the Premier’s Department Circular no. 85/5 of 26 July 1985.
Victorian Government agencies have been lodging copies of their publications with the State Library of Victoria since the early 1960s to enable the Library to build a comprehensive record of Victorian Government publishing. Since that time agencies have lodged a range of formats, including books, journals, microfiche, CD-ROMs, maps and pamphlets. Due to the increasing trend towards government agencies publishing documents on the internet, the Library needs to extend its collecting to web pages and online documents if it is to continue to build a comprehensive record of government publishing.
To meet the aim of extending its collection to include internet publications, the State Library requests that your agency provide the Library with permission to gather websites and publications on websites and email subscriptions produced by your agency for the public.
For copyright matters the Library abides by the Commonwealth Copyright Act 1968. Privacy matters are determined by the Victorian Information Privacy Act 2000.
