The strength of the Law & Government collection lies in the historical government publications for all Australian governments and the overseas governments with links to Australia. These include Britain, the United States, Canada and New Zealand. There are also strong holdings of historical documents from international bodies, such as the United Nations, the former League of Nations and the European Communities.
While government publications are an integral part of all subjects, the strongest collecting ties are to law, politics, and statistics. They also underpin the Library's history resources.
The Library has significant holdings of research materials in law, including law reports and legislation for Victoria, Australia and other states, as well as strong historical collections in English law and international treaties and conventions.
Collecting is now directed at digital resources as well as print, and results in linking to legislation and government sites and accessing online law reports and reference tools. These provide commentary and guides to the law.
Includes official publications produced by the Victorian, state, Australian and overseas governments.
Includes common law, statute law and subordinate legislation.
Includes political science, public administration and military science.
