CUP DAY OPENING HOURS
The Library will be operating with reduced hours on Melbourne Cup Day, Tuesday 4 November. The main Library areas will be open from 10am to 6pm and the galleries will be open from 10am to 5pm.

Most of the usual Library services will still be on offer, but Heritage Collections will be closed.

AGL SHAW SUMMER RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP APPLICATIONS OPEN
If you are a postgraduate student working on a research project in any discipline, apply now for the Library's 2009 Summer Research Fellowship. The four week program includes extensive access to the Library's rich collections and use of a private study.

Applications close Friday 14 November 2008.

GEOFFREY BLAINEY TO SPEAK AT ANNUAL LECTURE
This year's Stephen Murray-Smith Memorial Lecture will be presented by Professor Geoffrey Blainey, one of Australia's most popular and influential historians.

Come to the Library next Wednesday 5 November and hear Blainey reflect on 50 years of writing Australian history.

ANNUAL REPORT OUT SOON
The State Library of Victoria's 2007-08 Annual Report will be published around the end of November. The report will cover the Library's activities and achievements over the last financial year, and will be available to read on the Library's website.

COMING EVENTS

LIBRARY TREASURES TRAVEL TO WEST VICTORIA
Some of the Library's most special collection items will travel to Ballarat, Ararat and Stawell schools and libraries during November as part of the Travelling Treasures program.

Come along to a free evening talk and see the historic pieces on display, including Burke and Wills expedition items and rare May Gibbs children's books.

POETRY SLAM STATE FINAL
Champion slam poets from across Victoria will perform their best spoken works at the competition state final at the Library on Thursday 13 November.

NEW CAROLINE WILLIAMS EXHIBITION
Celebrating the centenary of Victorian women's right to vote, Caroline Williams' new series of portraits profiles 12 eminent Victorian women.

The free temporary exhibition opens in the Cowen Gallery this Saturday 25 October.

UPCOMING EXHIBITION IN KEITH MURDOCH GALLERY
R Ian Lloyd and John McDonald visited 61 painters across Australia to capture their studios and examine how artists' spaces impact on their work. 'Studio', an exhibition of their full scale photographs and text, will open in the Keith Murdoch Gallery on Friday 21 November.
