Permission to Use Library Items

How do I obtain permission?

If you wish to reproduce an image of a collection item you need to apply for permission to do so by printing and completing the form below. You do not need to pay a fee.

Application for Permission to Publish or Reproduce Material PDF 77kb

Adobe Reader software is required to view and print this PDF document.

Why do I need to obtain permission?

Images of collection items are owned by the State Library of Victoria (whether obtained by photographic, digital, photocopy or other means). They cannot be reproduced without prior permission from the Library.

It must be stressed that obtaining permission to reproduce an item is not the same as copyright. The State Library of Victoria often does not hold the copyright for items in its collections. In such cases it is the responsibility of the author or publisher to obtain the consent in writing of the copyright holder.
