Permission to Publish Library Items
If you would like to publish a copy of an item in the Library's collection or display a copy in an exhibition, you need to gain permission from the Library.
You do not need the Library's permission to use a copy of an item for study purposes.
How do I gain the Library's permission?
Does this permission cover copyright?
No, gaining the Library's permission to publish an item does not give you permission to reproduce material under copyright.
The State Library of Victoria does not hold the copyright for all items in its collections. If an item is still under copyright, you will need to get consent from the copyright owner to publish or reproduce it.
How long does the permission application take to process?
You can expect a reply within 15 working days of the Library receiving your application.

How do I request a high resolution copy of the item?
Ordering a photographic copy of an item and obtaining permission to publish an item are seperate processes.
If you require a reproduction or exhibition quality copy, you need to submit a separate copying order and payment.

You need to state which collection an item has been sourced from. Refer to the following list for the correct form of acknowledgement.
