What's in the Science & Technology Collection?
The Library has a comprehensive collection of science and technology reference materials which complement a wide range of scientific books, journals, periodicals, text and electronic databases, indexes, pamphlets, maps, manuals, product catalogues, textbooks and trade directories.
What's special about this collection?
During the latter part of the 19th and the early 20th centuries, the Library systematically collected the major monographs and periodical publications. This now forms the basis of the our extensive science and technology historical collection which also includes significant materials on patents, a comprehensive collection of 20th century standards & codes of practice, illustrated Australian botanical and ornithological works, a broad range of resources on medicine and health, and a selection of early 20th century motoring manuals.
Today the growing interest in popular science, applied technology and cross-disciplinary studies is reflected in materials that deal with the environment, conservation, computer science, astronomy, genetics and experimental medicine.
How can I access material in this collection?
A selection of items from the Science & Technology Collection is available for browsing and reading in the Information Centre and the Redmond Barry Reading Room.
