Fight for rights

Throughout history, Victorian men and women have fought to achieve basic rights for all Victorians. Simple things that we take for granted today – like a woman's right to vote, or a shopkeeper's right to a shorter working day – weren't always so simple.

Learn about the ongoing struggle for Indigenous rights in Victoria, from the 1967 referendum to 2008's ‘Sorry Day'. Discover who fought for Victorian women's right to equal pay, how the 8-hour working day came to be, and what these stories mean to Victorians today.
