We run a range of scheduled and on-demand professional development programs for teachers, librarians, literacy professionals and others. All professional development events must be pre-booked.
We also produce a range of online resources for teachers, librarians and literacy professionals.
In addition, we offer the Personal Learning Network, an online learning program for teachers and teacher librarians to build networks, discover web tools and share resources.
Scheduled programs
Our scheduled sessions, delivered by our education team, Centre for Youth Literature and Young Readers Program, cover:
- literacy and reading for young children
- research skills
- books, reading and youth literature
- exhibition previews

On-demand programs
Professional learning at the Library
Full- or half-day sessions are available at the Library for teachers and librarians who want to learn more about our collections and services.
Tailored packages covering topics like research skills, web 2.0 tools, the ergo website and other online education resources are available.
We can also arrange viewings of rare collection items and talks by librarians specialising in topics such as children's literature or medieval history.
All professional development programs are designed in accordance with the VIT's standards of professional practice and the DEECD's principles of highly effective professional learning. Certificates of completion are provided.
