Luke Beesley

Luke Beesley is researching Seed, a book manuscript of contemporary poetry and drawings based on research into Victorian seed dispersal and wind patterning.

The research will draw on the Library's catalogue of seed biology and trajectories; Victorian wind patterning and wind atlas maps and meteorological histories; floral drawings, paintings and sketches; and curious and idiosyncratic Victorian anecdotes and histories about seed and wind movement.

The form and shape of the manuscript itself will be determined by the research; small fragments of one-line poems that work alone and also flow on from, and into, other fragments, will be created. The ordering of these fragments will be determined based on the mechanics of seed dispersal.

The poems will extend themes explored in previous books and works including, intimacy, loss, accident and the aesthetics of making. Pencil and pastel on paper drawings will document the process and be included in the manuscript.
