Geraldine Brooks: People of the Book

Geraldine Brooks, Pulitzer Prize-winning author of March, speaks about her latest novel, People of the Book. The book tells the story of an ancient Hebrew illuminated manuscript, taking the reader on a journey of discovery across continents and into the medieval world. Director of Collections and Access at the State Library, Shane Carmody, introduces the lecture. Mary Dalmau, General Manager of Reader's Feast, introduces Geraldine Brooks.

A lecture held on 18 March 2008, presented by Reader’s Feast Bookstore in association with the State Library of Victoria's The Medieval Imagination exhibition.

Australian-born Geraldine Brooks has enjoyed a highly successful career as an award-winning journalist, writing for The Sydney Morning Herald and The Wall Street Journal, where she worked as a foreign correspondent covering the Middle East, Africa and the Balkans.

Her 1994 non-fiction book Nine Parts of Desire was a bestseller, and in 1997 her non-fiction Foreign Correspopndence won the Nita B Kibble Award for women's writing. Her best-selling first novel Year of Wonders was published in 2001, and in 2006 she was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for her second novel, March.
