Musical Wednesdays - Arts Music Video Program: October-November 2008
From March to November the Library runs a regular program of music videos selected from our collection. These relaxed Wednesday afternoon sessions, held in the Arts Listening-Viewing Room, are a must for music fans. Enjoy free screenings of classic music and dance performances - from popular musicals to opera greats.
When Every second Wednesday afternoon Where Arts Listening-Viewing Room. Enter via the Arts Reading Room and Audio-Visual Centre (from the Information Centre). Bookings Not required but early arrival (ie 10-15 minutes before scheduled program starting time) is recommended due to limited seating. For groups of more than four people please ring 03 8664 7194 in advance to make arrangements. Cost Free

La Boheme: an opera in four acts
12-1.50pm Luciano Pavarotti and Mirella Freni star in a great production of Puccini's classic opera. With the San Francisco Opera Chorus conducted by Ian Robertson, the San Francisco Opera Orchestra conducted by Tiziano Severini. Sung in Italian with English subtitles.

Nureyev & Fonteyn in Romeo and Juliet: a ballet in three acts
12-2.10pm This is the famed Royal Ballet production featuring Rudolf Nureyev and Margot Fonteyn at the peak of their careers. With soloists of The Royal Ballet and Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. Music is by Serge Prokofiev and choreography by Kenneth MacMillan. This video was originally released as a film in 1966.
5 November
A Midsummer Night's Dream: an opera in three acts
12-2.35pm This magical opera adapted from Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream features music by Benjamin Britten and libretto by Benjamin Britten & Peter Pears. With Ileana Cotrubas as Tytania, James Bowman as Oberon & Felicity Lott as Helena. Also includes The Glyndebourne Chorus ; London Philharmonic Orchestra ; Bernard Haitink, Conductor. Performed at the Glyndebourne Festival Opera.
19 November
The Nutcracker: a ballet in two acts
12-1.20pm Mikhail Baryshnikov and Gelsey Kirkland star in this spectacular production of the timeless festive season ballet classic. With soloists of The American Ballet Theatre. Music by Tchaikovsky and choreography by Mikhail Baryshnikov. Conducted by Kenneth Schermerhorn.
