Introducing Toni Jordan
Posted by: Reading Victoria Moderator
5 December 2008
Toni Jordan is next Summer Read author blogging from 6 – 10 December.
Toni Jordan has a BSc in physiology and qualifications in marketing and professional writing. She has worked as a sales assistant, molecular biologist, quality control chemist and marketing manager. Toni’s published work includes numerous magazine articles, a short story and a chapter in a medical textbook. She lives in Melbourne.
Her book Addition is one of the books on the Summer Read shortlist.
Addition tells the story of Grace Lisa Vandenburg, for whom numbers hold the world together. And so she counts. Everything. Seamus Joseph O’Reilly thinks she might be better off without the counting. She might be able to hold down a job, for example. Grace’s problem is that Seamus doesn’t count. Her other problem is…he does.

What Toni says about summer reading
“Over summer I attack my teetering to-be-read pile, but also patch those embarrassing gaps in my reading history. This year will be Dickens (The Pickwick Papers and A Christmas Carol) and Eleanor Dark (A Timeless Land and Return to Coolami).”

It was ‘the sexy bits’ that made Grace such a fantastic character for me - the sensual side of her was quite unexpected!

Okay I’ve read ahead and phoarrhh!! I’ll definitely make sure we stick to the first 2 chapters. As it happens my son likes to start everything at the beginning every time - which can be incredibly frustrating, but in this case will work to my advantage, it’s a short drive to school.
Can I say Toni, um, how shall I put this, bravo on the sexy bits. That sounded not quite right, the writing I mean, it’s very evocative!!

Christi I’m so glad you’re liking Addition. I was very lucky with the reader, Caroline Lee–she’s a good friend of mine, a wonderful actress and one of the first people to have read my first draft. So she has a long background with Grace and really understands her. I’m also thrilled your seven year old likes it but…um…well…are you up to the sexy bits yet?
best

I feel like a bit of a blog hog here. But I am really enjoying blogging with the Summer Read authors and it is forcing me to keep a tight reading schedule to get through the lists books as the authors come on the blog - I love a challenge!
Hi Toni, I have just started reading “Addition”. Actually I am reading it and listening to it in my car on audio.
Can I tell you you have a new fan, my seven year old son. He has autism and as such finds numbers a wonderfully consistent and predictable presence in his life, and he loves listening to “addition”. Which he calls “addiction” and announces loudly at school “Mummy can we put “Addiction” on in the car.
Anyway, we are both enjoying reading/listening.
