Cafe Scheherazade
 |
'In Acland Street, St Kilda, there stands a cafe called Scheherazade.? Thus begins this haunting meditation on displacement and the way the effects of war linger in the minds of its survivors. At once fable and history, it takes the reader on a journey which ranges from Kobe to Paris, from Vilna to Melbourne.

Who loved this book?Cr David Wilson, City of Melbourne
The power of story telling! It probably can?t be over rated. A few friends sitting around a cup of coffee in a caf? on Acland St in St Kilda, talking with each other about their times in other lands during WW2. Talking about survival and rebuilding and celebrating life as they now know it. This what Arnold Zable has given to us in this wonderful book.
I highly recommend this book. It transports you to far off lands and situations but then lands you right back in the here and now of multi-cultural Melbourne and you find yourself celebrating the life you have.
Thank you Arnold Zable!
