Masud, who has lived in Australia for 30 years, returns to Bangladesh to farewell his dying father. As he reacquaints himself with his family, he realises how little he really knows them and is surprised by their complex, shifting attitudes. He also discovers some family secrets. Most disturbing of all are the secrets of his young nephew.

Adib Khan divides his time between Ballarat and Melbourne. He was born in Dhaka, Bangladesh, and came to Australia in 1973. His first novel, Seasonal Adjustments, won the Christina Stead Prize for Fiction and the 1995 Commonwealth Writer's Prize. He is also the author of Solitude of Illusions, The Storyteller and Homecoming.
