Richard Divall OBE

Richard Divall was the recipient of a 12-month Honorary Creative Fellowship in 2003. He was Music Director of the Victoria State Opera and Principal Resident Conductor of Opera Australia from 1972 to 2001. He has conducted over 150 operas and edited several volumes of Australian and Baroque (especially Maltese) music. He is currently a Research Fellow and Associate Professor of Music at the University of Melbourne.

During his Fellowship at the State Library, Richard had the opportunity to discover and edit some of Australia’s most important early music by Charles E Horsley, Fritz Hart, Leon Caron, GW Marshall-Hall, Alberto Zelman Snr, Carl Linger and Isaac Nathan. With the support of the Marshall-Hall Trust, Allan and Maria Myers, and 3MBS, he has been able to publish new editions of some of these works.

During 2007 he is conducting performances of four of these composers as part of the Library's Musical Treasures series.
