Research Programs

The State Library of Victoria administers a number of research programs. These range from fellowships to benefit those working in the creative and scholarly spheres, scholarships to promote high standards and leadership in the public library sector and professional development fellowships for teachers.

A list of the current recipients of the Library's various Fellowships and Scholarships.

State Library of Victoria Creative Fellowships

The Library awards a number of Creative Fellowships annually to scholars, writers, composers and artists. They reflect the Library's committment to original scholarship and creative endeavour, and promote the Library's rich resources.

La Trobe Society Fellowship

The La Trobe Society in association with the Library offers one La Trobe Society Fellowship each year. The Society promotes recognition and understanding of the achievements of Charles Joseph La Trobe, one of the Library's key founders.

Georges Mora Foundation Fellowship

This six-month Fellowship offered by the Georges Mora Foundation supports practising Australian artists. It honours Georges Mora's contribution to the visual arts in Australia over a 40-year period.

Dr Joseph Brown AO Fellowship

This annual Fellowship offers one scholar a stipend for up to six months to study in the field of art history. It is named for Dr Joseph Brown AO, OBE, esteemed Australian art dealer, art collector and artist.

Redmond Barry Fellowship

The Redmond Barry Fellowship for scholars and writers is jointly sponsored by the University of Melbourne and the State Library of Victoria. It is named in honour of Sir Redmond Barry (1813-1880), a founder of both these institutions.

AGL Shaw Summer Research Fellowships

These four-week Fellowships provide emerging scholars - those about to commence postgraduate studies - with the opportunity to draw upon the Library's vast resources to pursue research projects. They are named for eminent historian AGL Shaw AO.

Margery C Ramsay & Barrett Reid Scholarships

Named in honour of two eminent librarians, the prestigious Margery C Ramsay and Barrett Reid Scholarships are awarded biennially (alternating each year) by the Library Board of Victoria to Victorian public library staff to support professional development.

William Buckland Foundation Teaching Fellowships

These Fellowships provide creative professional development oppportunities for Victorian teachers. They also facilitate the development of innovative and sustainable learning programs that benefit public education and increase participation and access to the Library's exhibitions, collections and services.
