Professional Development

The Library offers a range of professional development programs. These are provided by its Education Programs Unit and the Centre for Youth Literature.

Exhibition-based programs

The Education Programs Unit provides a number of free exhibition preview sessions for Victorian teachers and teacher-librarians each year, based on the Library's permanent and temporary exhibitions.

At each of these evening sessions, teachers are taken on a guided tour of a particular exhibition. An outline of the programs offered for students and examples of the ways in which they can be incorporated into the relevant curricula are provided. Refreshments are provided.

Youth literacy programs

The Centre for Youth Literature offers professional development sessions for teachers, teacher-librarians and youth literacy professionals. These consist of Booktalkers and Professional Learning Programs. It also maintains Read Alert, a youth literature blog.

Every two years it organises a three-day professional development conference, Reading Matters.
