François Péron, Voyages de découvertes aux Terres Australes, Dirigé par J Hilbert, Paris, 1807–11, Rare Books collection
François Péron was the naturalist on board Nicolas Baudin’s voyage to Australia and the Pacific in 1800–04. Baudin died on the return voyage, and it fell to Péron to prepare the expedition’s results for publication. His atlas of historical views is without doubt one of the finest publications ever issued on Australia. The detailed illustrations were produced by Nicolas Petit and Charles Lesueur, official artists on the voyage.
