“I saw it online, so it must be true.”

In an age where information is only ever a click away and anyone can be an armchair expert, how can we tell the good sources from the bad?

Our first Salon After D’Arc event of the year, Changing Your Mind, unpacks the anatomy of misinformation – how it’s constructed, disseminated and, ultimately, believed.

In a night packed with compelling discourse, experience live truth-testing experiments with comedic provocateur Sami Shah, interactive fact-checking with Gordon Farrer, and powerful conversations between Jamila Rizvi and Sushi Das, as they dissect the forces at work in shaping our perceptions of truth.

Featuring:

  • Jamila Rizvi, Deputy Managing Director of Future Women, best-selling author and broadcaster, and recognised among the Australian Financial Review’s 100 Women of influence.
  • Sami Shah, Pakistani-Australian comedian, critically acclaimed author and broadcaster, lecturer at the University of Melbourne, and curator of OzAsia Festival’s Weekend of Words.
  • Sushi Das, Award-winning British-Australian journalist, recognised with two Melbourne Press Club Quill Awards, author and current Lecturer at RMIT University.
  • Gordon Farrer, journalist and award-winning lecturer at RMIT University, specialising in fact-checking and verification journalism.

Don’t miss out on a complimentary cocktail on arrival, and a special collections viewing from 6.30pm.

Arrive curious, leave questioning everything.

Our Salon After D'Arc series is an opportunity to delve deeper into interesting topics, make connections in the beautiful surrounds of the Library and view rare books acquired through the Women Writers Fund initiative. This event is supported by the Helen Macpherson Smith Trust.
