Dr Anne Longmire

Dr Anne Longmire is researching a book manuscript,  The Catalysts: 'changing yet unchanged' 1910–2010.

This project involves writing the history of the Catalysts club within the broader context of change over the past hundred years. The Catalysts club members represent a range of women who prepared and read papers of their own to club members. The papers reflected their professional and intellectual interests in fields such as art, education science, mathematics, history, literature, travel, sociology, philosophy, psychology and international affairs.

The structure of the club, its membership and the interests portrayed in their discussions and papers represent an unexplored facet of the history of women with high ideals and aims for achieving a recognised role in society.
