Environment
The State Library has an extensive collection of materials covering a diverse range of environmental issues.
You can research topics including ecology, environmental science, biodiversity, sustainability, conservation, endangered species, hydrology, climate change, pollution, natural resources, biology, health, carbon emission trading, environmental auditing and waste management.
As well as large collections of books, journals and newspapers, the Library has many other resources that can assist with research into the environment:
- reports from research bodies, such as the Garnaut climate change report and the CSIRO's Water availability in the Murray-Darling basin
- Victorian and Australian environmental impact statements for government and private projects
- government publications – legislation, departmental reports, material from agencies such as the Bureau of Meteorology and the Environment Protection Authority
- handbills and posters in the Ephemera Collection
- materials in the law collection showing how environmental issues play out through the legal system
- publications from groups such as water catchment bodies and Landcare, covering the work they do in researching and protecting vulnerable environments
- old pictures, maps and published local studies that can be used to track changes to the environment from white settlement through to current times
