When you’re studying it’s important to make sure you’re still taking care of your mental and physical health.

Read our tips and tricks below to develop your own self-care plan and establish good daily habits to keep you happy, healthy and productive!

Exercise and stretching

Taking regular study and exercise breaks has been shown to improve concentration, reduce anxiety and increase productivity.

Take regular small breaks of 3–5 minutes throughout the day to go for a short walk, stretch and stand up away from your desk.

Plus, take a look at BeUpstanding’s guide to setting up a healthy workstation at home, to make sure the time you spend at your desk is as productive and safe as possible.

Meditation

Beyond Blue’s discussion paper Victoria’s next 10-year mental health strategy says E-mental health programs, including meditation apps and self-guided online programs, have been demonstrated to be as clinically effective as face-to-face treatment, and up to 50 times more cost effective.

Free mindfulness sessions can be easily found online, simply select one which suits your needs and you’ll be on your way. It can be only five minutes out of your day, but your mind will thank you!

Bibliotherapy

Bibliotherapy is the age-old practice of book therapy, where the healing power of literature nourishes and comforts us during challenging times.

Take some time away from your screen to relax and savour the words of stories and poems selected to encourage self-reflection.
